UK Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard
Following the conclusion of the pilot phase, Hadley welcomes the launch of Version 1 of the UK Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard (UK NZCBS), marking an important milestone for the UK’s built environment.
Hadley played an active role in the pilot testing programme, working alongside industry partners, including Buro Happold, to contribute real project data and practical insight. This involvement has helped shape a robust, science-led framework for verifying net zero carbon buildings.
A key contribution to the pilot was Hadley’s 980 Great West Road scheme, where the Standard was applied to Plot H. This provided an opportunity to test the methodology against the challenges of large-scale retrofit and repurposing of an existing commercial building, including integration with retained structures and site-wide infrastructure.
The new Standard establishes a consistent, cross-sector methodology applicable to new builds, existing assets and retrofit projects. While currently voluntary, it represents an important step towards a unified approach to net zero delivery across the industry.
Looking ahead, Hadley will apply the Standard beyond Plot H, further supporting its evolution towards becoming an industry-accepted benchmark for measuring net zero carbon.
