Shared cycles - shared values
We are delighted to announce our partnership with Brompton Bike Hire, the official bike hire service from the iconic folding Brompton bicycle that is now the sustainable commuter’s bike of choice.
Our announcement follows two years of working together in cross-sector collaboration, developing ideas to help Londoners change the way they move around their city.
Fostering a culture of sustainability and enabling healthy, accessible and affordable means of travel are core focuses of Hadley’s approach to development. In addition to all our developments being car-free, we invest in Shared Mobility Hubs to promote greener, cleaner choices in our communities. These provide storage and rental of shared, low-carbon vehicles such as bicycles, e-bikes, scooters and cargo bikes.
In collaboration with Brompton Bike Hire, our London developments will have bike hire docks – offering flexible rental and storage space of fold-up bicycles. By providing easier and cheaper access to affordable green travel for the wider community, we hope to get more people cycling long-term.
We have been developing our idea with Brompton over the last two years, and are delighted to launch it this month. Hadley shares Brompton’s commitment to enabling Londoners to access bikes, and to playing a part in London’s sustainable future. If our city is to get anywhere near the active travel and air quality targets it has set itself, more cross-sector partnerships like this need to be formed.
Importantly, we plan to install these docks at least two years before completion of the developments, meaning they can also be used by anyone working on site during construction. As well as reducing the levels of construction traffic around the site, this helps with London’s active travel and air quality targets.
The first bike hire dock will be located at our development at Blackwall Yard in east London, followed by at least three more at our other development sites across London later this year.
Finding partners like Hadley is vital to our mission of changing the way people move around cities. What has really impressed us is the determination to think holistically about active travel. Launching this partnership with us several years ahead of their sites’ completions enables Hadley’s construction workers to use bikes to travel to and from work, thereby reducing local congestion during the development stage. It also provides a fantastic resource for the wider community to use. This partnership adds to the expanding network of Brompton Hire docks in London.
We’ve also been working on another exciting project at our development in Colliers Wood, in collaboration with Brompton Bike Hire and Clarion Futures. This community initiative aims to break down the barriers into cycling and provide local people who do not normally have access to bikes with transport that is healthy, affordable and sustainable.
Stay tuned for our next announcement to find out more and get involved in what we have in store for the residents of Merton.
