Hadley's IQL North scheme receives planning approval
Following over two years of detailed design work and extensive consultation and engagement with the community, we are pleased to announce that our planning application for the redevelopment of IQL North received unanimous approval at the final LLDC Planning Decisions Committee on Tuesday evening.
The scheme, representing one of the final undeveloped metropolitan sites in the Olympic Park, will deliver a new neighbourhood and destination for Stratford. Members commended the high-quality and unique design, led by Dutch architectural practice Mecanoo. Our plans will provide 672 new homes for Newham, including 172 Social Rent homes and 909 student beds at 42.5% affordable.
The final scheme will speak to the legacy of our meanwhile community hub, the Lighthouse and Gardens, offering diverse public realm with play space for all ages, a community garden with growing spaces and a fixed home for the sustainable transport initiative we have established onsite with the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park (QEOP), Brompton Bike Hire and Enterprise. We will also provide a new home for LLDC’s Good Growth Hub in partnership with the QEOP and Elevate, ensuring they can continue to deliver their essential work to create career pathways for young East Londoners.
Our consultation programme, including three public consultation events, a co-design programme and ongoing, informal conversations facilitated by our meanwhile partners, provided us with genuine insight into local needs and aspirations. Our ambition is to honour the relationships and values formed throughout the planning process, using the knowledge gained to inform our evolving Neighbourhood Charter, encompassing a range of initiatives, pledges and commitments for the future site, its residents and the existing community.
Thank you to everyone on our project team, our meanwhile partners at Community Sauna Baths CIC, El Cafecito, Elite Project Services, Gabby Briscoe, Su Winsbury, Brompton Bike Hire, Enterprise and the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, all of the staff and volunteers at The Lighthouse and Gardens and every resident and community stakeholder that engaged with us and made this project possible.
We look forward to updating you all as the project progresses and providing more details on our Neighbourhood Charter and future Good Growth Hub.
