Celebrating Strength and Sisterhood

Reflecting on the Cycle Sisters Cambridge Cycling Tour
Published Mon 21 Oct 2024

Local charities are the cornerstone of communities, and we have had the privilege of working with some fantastic ones over the years. One of the best parts of our jobs is meeting the people who mobilise their communities, dedicate their time and resources and encourage social bonding and solidarity through their cause.

We have worked with Cycle Sisters across various Hadley projects, aligning with one another's commitment to promoting social value, inclusivity and active lifestyles. So, when they asked if we would like to sponsor their Tour de Cycle Sisters ride from London to Cambridge Central Mosque, we knew we wanted to help make it happen. Alongside Tower Hamlets GP Care Group CIC, we supported a fleet of 60 women embarking on a 60-mile cycle to Cambridge.

I couldn’t be more proud of the incredible women who took part in the Tour de Cycle Sisters. For many, this was the longest ride they’ve ever completed, and seeing their determination on such a challenging journey was truly inspiring. This ride is a testament to the power of women coming together to support one another. I’m deeply grateful to Hadley Property Group for their generous support, which made this epic day possible. Our partnership has enabled us to create more opportunities to empower women through cycling. Congratulations to everyone who took part—this is a moment to celebrate!

This unique women-only cycling challenge fostered an unforgettable day of camaraderie, offering an accessible and supportive environment for Muslim women to undertake this athletic challenge. Gathering at daybreak and sporting their new branded cycling kits, the women started at our meanwhile community hub, the Lighthouse, for a quick breakfast and final bike safety checks.

As participants pedalled through the countryside, they were met with enthusiastic and encouraging cheers from fellow cyclists and residents. Despite the physical challenges, these women supported one another and created a truly uplifting and heartwarming experience. The Tour de Cycle Sisters is a prime example of the power of coming together to push boundaries and achieve personal milestones in a nurturing environment. It was a day defined by laughter, encouragement and the reward of overcoming new challenges and creating lasting memories and friendships.

Now I've done 60 miles on a bike. The most I've ever done. It has made me realise I'm capable of much more than I actually believed I was capable of. You know, I used to be at home alone and feeling isolated, but when I joined this group, there was so much warmth, so much love, and so much care for each other. Being with women in a safe environment and keeping fit. It's more than you can ask for than going to a gym or just staying at home and feeling lonely. There's no need for that. Come on, go online and join Cycle Sisters in your area.
