Community Sauna Baths
Saunas for social good, health and community connection
Community Saunas is a pop-up wellbeing initiative based at our IQL North site, delivered in partnership with Community Sauna Baths CIC. The project uses meanwhile space to promote the mental and physical benefits of traditional sauna therapy, creating an inclusive, accessible and community-focused environment centred on health, wellbeing and social connection.
The IQL North Community Saunas host authentic Finnish saunas alongside ice baths and cold water showers, and offer a programme of special events, including sound baths, storytelling, and grief sauna sessions. Through agreed social value leases, the initiative ensures the availability of free or discounted sessions for local residents, community groups, key workers and people in receipt of Universal Credit, widening access to wellbeing facilities that might otherwise be out of reach.
Accessibility and inclusion are central to the project. In Spring 2024, Community Sauna Baths unveiled Beryl, London’s first wheelchair-accessible outdoor sauna, at IQL North. The initiative also delivers private, free weekly sessions for refugees in collaboration with Care4Calais, with Community Sauna Baths funding transport to the site to remove barriers to participation.
