FUTURE MAKERS: DESIGN YOUR PUBLIC SPACES

Win a trip to Norway and see your furniture design come to life!
Published Tue 14 May 2024

Hadley Property Group, London-based property developers, McGregor Coxall, landscape and urban design specialists, and the London Legacy Development Corporation are inviting young creatives of Newham, Tower Hamlets, Waltham Forest, and Hackney to get involved in our Future Makers Competition for a chance to win an all-expenses-paid trip to Norway and see their furniture design come to life at our new site in Stratford.

Located on Stratford High Street and adjacent to the Greenway, the development will deliver a new neighbourhood with affordable homes, community venues, places to eat and drink and green outdoor spaces. Now, we want you to get involved!

Making this project possible is Vestre, a leading sustainable furniture manufacturer in Scandinavia. The three winners will collaborate with Vestre, McGregor Coxall and Hadley’s team to see their furniture design go from concept to product and get an exclusive opportunity to visit Vestre’s state-of-the-art factory in Norway.

THE PROJECT

We would like you to design a piece of furniture to feature in the outdoor space of our future development. It's up to you what you would like to create! You could design a bench, picnic table, planter or playful feature. Whatever you choose, you can be as creative as you like, using the judging criteria to inform your final design piece.

JUDGING CRITERIA:

  • Sustainability: how is your design sustainable? Think material, material sourcing, durability and recyclability.
  • Social Connectivity: how does your design enhance public spaces and encourage social connections?
  • Local Identity: how does your design reflect Stratford’s character and identity?
  • Innovation: how is your design unique and innovative?

ELIGIBILITY:

  • Must be aged 14-21

  • Must live or attend a school in Newham, Tower Hamlets, Waltham Forest or Hackney

  • If under the age of 18, you must have a nominated chaperone. This can be a parent, guardian or teacher.

TO INCLUDE IN YOUR APPLICATION:

  • An explanation of how it meets the judging criteria

  • A minimum of two hand-drawn or digitally rendered images (AI-generated not accepted)

  • Materials to be used

* We want you to present your ideas and creation in a way that’s most suitable for you. You can answer the judging criteria using imagery with prompts or written information. All we ask is that you clearly reflect the vision and principles behind your design.
